Is this an impressionist work, inspired by reality – or was this scene a product of the artists’ imagination?
The scene in break wall is an amalgamation of imagination and reality (as is just about all of my work). The imagery is from my childhood home, having grown up on a lake. Our break wall was made of irregularly shaped stones, and often had Queen Anne’s lace growing up between the cracks. Early mornings often brought a heavy fog that would hang over the water and burn off as the sun rose. I took these elements from all of my memories of spending time there, and exaggerated their presence in an attempt to depict the emotional quality of that place for me.
