Fragments: Portraits of Survivors…Photographs by Jason Schwartz which were created and circulated by the Florida Holocaust Museum, St. Petersberg, Florida, April 1-30 at the URI Providence Campus 1st and 2nd Lobby Gallery.  The exhibit includes 115 survivor portraits (contemporary images) with carefully worded statements by each individual survivor and additional photographs of a number of these as children and youth during the time of the Holocaust.  Some survived in hiding, others escaped through the Kindertransport and other deportation efforts, others survived in work camps, and still others joined in the resistance movement to save others at their own peril.

URI Providence Campus Arts and Culture Program and the Rhode Island Holocaust Education and Resource Center are working with the Florida Holocaust Museum to display these images of the survivors as children/youth (then and now) along with the Traveling Portrait exhibit to make the stories more meaningful to contemporary youth that in fact the now elders were young during the Holocaust.  The exhibit also includes maps and contextual information.
