Stephan Brigidi is Rhode Island born and returned, having spent several years in Italy and Hawaii before firmly settling in Bristol, RI in 1981. He comes from an academic background having taught various levels of photography and painting at the Universities of Hawaii and Connecticut, RI College, Providence College, Roger Williams University and for twenty years at the RI School of Design.
Stephan is a Fulbright–Hays Fellow, a MacDowell Fellow and the recipient of various awards and grants for his photography, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. He has extensively exhibited and published his work throughout the United States and Europe and is represented in the collections of more than two dozen museums in the US and Europe.
Stephan is the author of two books:Angels of Pompeii, with co-author, Robert Bly, and Remarkable People: A Rhode Island Family Album – a book of portraits. Together with his wife Julie, they founded The Bristol Workshops in Photography Ltd., a fine art-commercial studio and school, now celebrating 25 years in business.
